Calculate pooled 5e multiclass spell slots instantly — including the easy-to-missArtificer round-up, separate Warlock Pact Magic, a live caster-level formula, and a side-by-side single-class comparison so you never wonder why your Paladin 5 dips differ from a pure half-caster chart.
How to use this calculator
- Enter levels for each class you have (or tap a preset build).
- Read the multiclass caster level banner — that number drives the long-rest table.
- Check Spell slots for long-rest slots and Pact Magic for short-rest Warlock slots.
- Open the breakdown to see exactly how each class contributes.
- Use Share link or Copy to paste into Discord or your character sheet.
Multiclass caster level formula
- Full casters (Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard): add all levels
- Paladin & Ranger: add half your levels, rounded down
- Artificer: add half your levels, rounded up
- Eldritch Knight & Arcane Trickster: add one-third of your levels, rounded down
- Warlock: does not add to the multiclass caster level — uses Pact Magic instead
Why this beats a basic slot chart
- Correct Artificer rounding (many public calculators floor like a paladin).
- Visual slot pips plus the full Multiclass Spellcaster reference table.
- Single-class comparison callouts for half- and third-casters.
- Shareable URLs, popular multiclass presets, and a copyable sheet summary.
- Optional non-caster rows so your total character level stays honest.
Popular multiclass examples
- Paladin 2 / Sorcerer 18 — smite fuel with a full caster level of 19
- Warlock 2 / Sorcerer 18 — two short-rest pact slots beside sorcerer slots
- Artificer 1 / Wizard 19 — CON save proficiency; Artificer still adds 1 caster level
- Eldritch Knight 3 / Wizard 17 — third-caster dip into wizard progression
Frequently asked questions
How do multiclass spell slots work in D&D 5e?
Add full caster levels, half your paladin/ranger levels (rounded down), half your artificer levels (rounded up), and one-third of Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster levels (rounded down). Look up that total on the Multiclass Spellcaster table. Warlock Pact Magic is tracked separately.
Why is Artificer rounded up?
The Artificer rules state that for multiclassing you add half your artificer levels rounded up. Paladin and ranger still round down. Tools that treat artificers exactly like paladins undersell odd-level artillerist dips (Artificer 1 contributes 1 caster level).
Do Warlock slots mix with other spell slots?
You can spend Pact Magic slots and multiclass spell slots interchangeably when casting, but you should track Warlock slots separately because they recharge on a short rest as well as a long rest.
Why do my Paladin or Eldritch Knight slots look different?
Half-casters and third-casters use their own class tables when single-classed. Multiclassing always uses the combined caster level against the Multiclass Spellcaster table, which can grant fewer or more slots than the solo table at the same class level.
Does this cover 2014 and 2024 rules?
Yes for spell-slot progression. The multiclass caster-level formula and Multiclass Spellcaster table are the same in both rules eras. Class features, prepared spells, and known spells still follow your individual class levels.
Can I share a build?
Your levels are stored in the page URL hash and in local browser storage. Use Share link to copy a permalink, or Copy for a sheet-ready text summary.
